Strategic Use of Change Management

Here are some key considerations to help governance become a strategic part of any change management program:
  • Consider the requirements for governance as equivalent to the systems utilized to deploy strategies, manage programs, leverage performance scorecards or hold key product reviews. These are vehicles that are implemented to organize, integrate and provide context for the actions considered critical.

  • Consider the desired result for success and the requirements to achieve it. Alignment, structure, accountability, communications and expectation management should be the critical factors. To achieve these, develop an organizational representation for the change, utilize charters, job descriptions, milestone plans and communication systems. It is important these tools link to change management with the project or program activities and systems as well as with the other changes. Doing so adds clarity to the roles people must perform and the means to communicate effectively to avoid confusion. If these tools are already in place and they meet your needs for these functions, use them … do not reinvent the wheel.
