Strategic Use of Change Management

Some tips to help you build change management as a core competency

Keep collecting good data
Collect the stories of successful change, including:
  • Project books that document those stories
  • Testimonials from leaders and change agents regarding the value of change management
  • Survey data collected from targets who feel as though they were treated as partners in the change process
  • Data around the number of people trained as change agents and attaining Master of Managed Change™ certification
When change management creates enough "buzz," senior leaders will start asking what is going on, and you will be ready with your "case for change."

When you go for sponsorship, be thoughtful about what you ask for
As the advocate for change management to become a core competency, you will need to build a good case for the current and desired state of your organization. Getting a "yes" from your senior leadership for that desired state is not enough, though. Be sure that, before you leave that meeting, senior leadership understands what will be required of them as the sponsors of this new change and that they agree to behave like the effective sponsors you need them to be.

Don't reinvent the wheel

Network. Find others within your organization and in other organizations who are doing the same thing and learn more about their experiences, their tips and lessons learned.
