A key to getting leadership's attention when advocating change management as a core competency happens when leadership can see change management being applied to a project important to them and when they get directly involved in the change management process as a result.
When the change agent(s) are applying change management directly at the strategy level, they need to work with leaders as they consider the larger implications of the changes. They need to help leaders understand the time and effort that will be required of them as sponsors, especially as it relates to the resistance potential within the broader organization. Success is when leaders recognize the value of change
management and when they start integrating change issues into their decision making.
The change agents need to be on the lookout for these kinds of opportunities and be ready to offer their support in these projects. Leaders won't know that they need this kind of help until it is offered.
