    Hey Jeanenne, When you are talking about turning data into information. How do you know which pieces of data are important and relate to each other? I’m a student studying change management currently. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Thanks Rowan

      What a thoughtful question.

      It IS difficult to know what data is important. As you pick up the issues and concerns and questions (the data) that individuals or groups have with each of the areas of potential resistance start from the premise that each piece of data IS important TO THAT INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

      As you plan to address each piece of data of course you will look for those that are common to many of the sub-groups of people impacted, recognizing that those are a priority.
      And as you roll out communications that assuage each data point you have collected if you keep getting that issue back in your feedback you know you need to continue to hit it or probe underneath it to the real issue.

      Regarding your question as to how to address the relationship between the data categories — Use your judgement and experience with the organization and the people impacted to decide the sequence of addressing the issues. For example, we at LaMarsh Global believe the experience people have had in the past with how changes have been dealt with can strongly affect any efforts you make to address their immediate concerns. So, sometimes, we will address the ‘history’ issue before the problems people are having accepting the future state, even though the data regarding this topic is not showing up as strongly.
